When you have the Monotone theme set up on your blog, it will take the first photo attached to each post and place that image prominently at the top, with the post text and comments below.

Simple enough. But what’s unique about this theme is that for each post page, Monotone changes the colors on the page to match the colors in the photo! A very cool method for creating an eye-pleasing visual atmosphere for your photoblog.

Check out the Monotone demo to see it for yourself.

The theme isn’t yet available for download, but should be in a few days.

BuddyPress: Turning WordPress into a Social Network http://johnlamansky.com/wordpress/automattic-acquires-buddypress/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=automattic-acquires-buddypress http://johnlamansky.com/wordpress/automattic-acquires-buddypress/#comments Wed, 05 Mar 2008 15:00:13 +0000 John Lamansky http://wordpress.jdwebdev.com/blog/news/automattic-acquires-buddypress/ It was announced just yesterday that BuddyPress, a project that aims to turn WordPress MU into a social network, has been acquired by Automattic to help continue its development.

This is great news! I think BuddyPress has a lot of potential in today’s social-oriented web. If early versions are indicative of the final release, BuddyPress is going to be more than a plugin — more like powerful “plugin system.”

I’ve actually been tracking the BuddyPress project for quite a while. After the creator, Andy, announced he didn’t have time to continue its development, I seriously considered contacting him to offer to take over the project. But it looks like it’s now in much better hands! Who would be better suited to developing a revolutionary WordPress plugin system than the creators of WordPress itself?

Can’t wait for the release!
